Mandarin Chinese is a different but not difficult language to learn as a child

We hear from adults too often that Chinese is too difficult. It is not - it is just different. This is what makes it such a great language to learn. Children think it is cool. General literacy improves as children understand more about how language works.  Chinese is intriguing. Sentence patterns in Chinese are easier than English grammar.

So what counts when learning Mandarin Chinese as a child?

Pronunciation
The differences  between Chinese and English/French/Spanish and German mean that whereas you can speak these langauges with a bad accent and be understood, in Chinese bad pronunciation means you will not be understood. Mandarama exposes chidren to different accents and sounds to fine tune their listening skills to improve their pronunication.

Cool matters
Learning Mandarin Chinese is more cool children say than other languages. It is different. Something their parents cannot do. Some children use it as their special secret language. Watch out parents! Teachers tell us boys seem to get Mandarin Chinese where they cannot be bothered with other langauges.

Culture matters
The very different nature of Chinese and China makes learning the language in isolation of the culture ineffective. Our subscription site contains a cultural wikipedia with links into the other content. Culture dictates how a language transmits meaning. Co learning of Chinese culture and language is key to learning Mandarin Chinese as a child.
