MAN, Tesla, and BYD Unveil Electric Trucks at IAA Transportation 2026

Following the IAA Transportation 2026 event in Hannover, a major international trade fair for the transport and logistics sector, three companies committed to sustainable transport have showcased their electric trucks: MAN with the eTGX, Tesla with the Semi, and BYD with the ETT 44.

Push for Decarbonization in Transport

The unveiling comes amid increasing pressure from international bodies like the European Union to decarbonize transport through sustainable energy adoption. While complete decarbonization remains challenging due to the world's continued reliance on fossil fuels, reducing emissions is a key goal, and the transport sector plays a crucial role.

MAN eTGX: Aerodynamics and Enhanced Battery Performance

MAN eTGX: Aerodynamics and Enhanced Battery Performance

The MAN eTGX stands out with its improved aerodynamics, enhanced energy recovery, and a new generation of batteries. These batteries offer a 10% increase in usable energy, extending the tractor's 4x2 autonomy to 660 kilometers. The improvement stems from advancements in cell chemistry without increasing size or weight, allowing for a 25-ton payload. Battery capacity increases to 95%, with a gross capacity of 92 kWh (88 kWh net). The truck features six battery packs providing a total capacity of 552 kWh, resulting in a range of up to 660 kilometers or 500 kilometers under long-distance transport conditions.

MAN also offers a 6x2 tractor version with a seventh 92 kWh battery. This configuration, benefiting from a repositioned fifth wheel to accommodate the additional battery, achieves a range of up to 720 kilometers (approximately 600 kilometers in real-world conditions). The eTGX is powered by a new 440 kW (590 hp) electric motor with significantly improved regenerative capabilities.
