Peugeot Unveils Electric E-208 GTI, Challenging Golf GTI
Peugeot has introduced the new E-208 GTI, boasting 281 horsepower and a 0-62 mph time of 5.5 seconds. However, the arrival of a fully electric GTI – sharing a platform with the Opel Corsa GSE – presents a notable shift in the compact sports car segment.
A Legacy of Performance
The E-208 GTI aims to recapture the excitement of the iconic Peugeot 205 GTI, a rival to the original Golf GTI. Peugeot is leveraging a dedicated architecture, including specific suspension, engine, battery management, and braking systems, to achieve this.

Technical Specifications
Equipped with a 54 kWh battery (the same as the standard Peugeot 208 Electric), the E-208 GTI weighs in at 1,535 kg (kerb weight) and 1,610 kg (tare weight). While heavier than the classic 205 GTI models, it’s comparable to a current Golf GTI.

Driving Experience
Despite being electric, the E-208 GTI prioritizes a sporty feel. It utilizes a pseudo-McPherson front suspension, engineered for racing performance. While lacking the traditional engine sound and vibrations of a gasoline GTI, Peugeot Sport has focused on delivering a dynamic driving experience.

Battery and Weight
The E-208 GTI’s battery is a 54 kWh unit with 17 modules, operating at 400 volts and weighing 340 kilograms. The car’s kerb weight is 1,535 kg, while the tare weight is 1,610 kg.
