Spanish Car Market Sees Strong Growth in August
The Spanish passenger car market experienced significant growth in August, with 68,544 units registered – an 11.8% increase compared to the same month last year.
Key Trends and Sales Figures
Despite the holiday period, sales rebounded to positive figures, driven largely by the strong performance of electrified vehicles, accounting for over a quarter of total sales. August’s registrations represent the best since 2019, when 74,426 units were sold.

Year-to-Date Performance
As of the end of August, 818,201 new passenger cars have been registered this year, a 6.3% increase compared to 2023. The sector is showing signs of recovery after a significant downturn during the pandemic, with sales down 40% in 2020.

Notable Brand Performance
Toyota and Volkswagen lead the way in overall registrations year-to-date, with Toyota registering 71,555 units and Volkswagen 52,519. However, Chinese brands like BYD and Ebro are driving considerable growth, with BYD selling 29,947 units and Ebro 17,990. Omoda and Jaecoo have also seen substantial increases, doubling and tripling their respective registrations, respectively.

Industry Outlook
Industry experts, including Anfac’s Félix García, are optimistic, predicting a return to one million sales by 2026, fueled in part by initiatives like the ‘Plan Auto +’ and the overall health of the market.
